This Chapter does not yet deal with Berkeley and the East Bay. On my flight to California from Stockholm I chose to make a stopover in Washington DC, advisable at my age!
     This turned out to be a wise decision; Washington was in the middle of its admirable cherry blossom season and rose to the occasion!
